Who Had the Best Verse in August?

blame it on Shake September 1, 2017

Lyricism is the backbone of hip hop. Although there are a ton of rappers who aren’t saying a gotdamn thing, there are those who are exceptionally gifted at putting words together over a beat. And with so many songs dropping during any given month, we feel that those rhymes that combine lyrical dexterity and cleverness with verbal gymnastics should be celebrated. Enter: Verse Of The Month.

This month, there was plenty of heat provided by rappers from all over. From Dave East delivering another street tale on “The Hated” and Sean Price continuing to prove he’s one of the best “Dead Or Alive” to Apathy‘s razor sharp precision on “Live From The Iron Curtain” and Aesop Rock‘s dizzying display on “Yoo-hoo.” Fashawn exposed “Crack AmeriKKKa,” Phora battled depression on “Numb” and Kevin Abstract kicked homophobia in the nuts with his verse on Brockhampton’s “JUNKY.” Oh, and let’s not forget about the dozens of bodies Conway collected during his Sway in the Morning freestyle.
