VH1’s ‘Hip Hop Honors’ To Salute Martin Lawrence

Following a six-year hiatus, VH1’s Hip Hop Honors returned in 2016, paying homage to the genre’s most influential women: Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, Salt-N-Pepa and Lil Kim.

Hip Hop Honors will salute the “90’s Game Changers,” paying homage to that era of hip hop, television and film. VH1 has also announced the first honoree: Martin Lawrence. Lawrence, a stand-up comedian, actor, producer, writer, and all-around GOAT, rose to prominence in the 90s with films like You So Crazy, Bad Boys, A Thin Line Between Love and Hate and Life. 2017 also marks the 25th anniversary of Lawrence’s eponymously-titled and influential sitcom Martin, which ran from 1992 to 1997.

Martin is also home to some of television’s funniest moments; don’t debate us on this.

“Anytime anyone wants to recognize you for your work, it’s an honor. I am looking forward to a really great night of fun and music,” Lawrence said in a statement to Billboard.

Hip Hop Honors returns for the 99 and the 2000 September 18th.
