RZA, On The AIDS Pill Price Gouger-Slash-Douchebag: “He Made A Few Bad Choices”

For whatever reason, the Wu-Tang Clan‘s RZA and Martin Shkreli, Pharma Bro-slash-The AIDS Pill Price Gouger-Slash-Douchebag have been inextricably tied to each other over the last several years. Shkreli purchased the Clan’s infamous one-of-one album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, which drew the ire of Ghostface Killah, which led to a back-and-forth between the two. When he was initially asked by Bloomberg Businessweek about the purchase in 2016, RZA gave a very diplomatic answer.

Last week (9/21) The RZA hosted TAKEOVER: 36 Chambers, an exhibit and conversation at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, CA, which would both promote the upcoming Wu-Tang Clan album The Saga Continues and his upcoming 36 Chambers capsule collection releasing in the Fall. Naturally, the conversation turned toward Shkreli, and when asked about him RZA answered in kind:

“He went to jail, right? It’s so crazy… Choices yo. All I gotta say is choices… I think he made a few bad choices.”

For those unaware, Shkreli was tossed in jail (and had his bail revoked) because of cyber threats made to Secretary Hillary Clinton. He was also convicted on three securities fraud-related counts and faces up to 20 years in prison for the convictions.

Shkreli purportedly then sold Once Upon a Time in Shaolin on eBay for $1 million, half of what he originally purchased it for.

“I went to eBay myself,” RZA said about that. “I had somebody make a bid for me. But then I talked to the lawyers, they said ‘We advise you not to.’ I said ok I’ll take that advice.”

Either way, hopefully this puts an end to this bizarro “saga.”
