Today (October 11th) marks two unique occasions: National Coming Out Day, and the International Day of the Girl. The latter was established by The United Nations in 2012 in order to “highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.”
To celebrate the Day of the Girl Beyoncé released a special video for her Just Blaze-produced song “Freedom,” taken from her 2016 album Lemonade. While it celebrates the woman in all shades, shapes and forms, it also reveals some harrowing yet true statistics about women worldwide. The video then asks viewers to take action, challenging them to help make a change alongside Chime for Change and The Global Goals (who co-produced the video).
