Thundercat Performs ‘Drunk’ Medley for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert

With artists like Chance the Rapper, Nick Grant and DJ Premier rocking NPR’s Tiny Desk over the summer, Thundercat gets the call to usher the series into the fall.

Fresh off releasing a video for “Show You the Way” with Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins (yes, that Michael McDonald and that Kenny Loggins), the LA-bred multi-talent took his talents to NPR and gave them (and us) a show worth remembering.

“I didn’t know what to expect in the days leading to the performance, but I was hoping to get what I thought a Thundercat experience would be like,” Bobby Carter of NPR said. “All boxes ended up checked: He arrived wearing a neon pink hoodie with his signature logo plastered about, kickboxing shorts, white chancletas, playing a Nintendo portable gaming console. He and his bandmates Dennis Hamm, Justin Brown and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, all master musicians in their own right, polished off some bacon croissant sandwiches and proceeded to give us three of the best of what Drunk has to offer.”

Off those Drunk standouts, Thundercat and company ran through “Lava Lamp,” “Friend Zone,” and “Them Changes.”
