Whether or not a Twitter-created movie starring Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o — directed by Ava DuVernay and with a screenplay from Issa Rae — happens remains to be seen (let’s hope it does!), but Rih-Rih is a co-star in an upcoming spin-off of the Ocean’s 11 film franchise.
Retitled Ocean’s 8, the film was first announced in 2016 and will eschew the leading male roles made popular by George Clooney and Brad Pitt and will instead feature an all-woman cast: Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina and Rihanna. The plot plays like the original: “a criminal mastermind and seven other female thieves try to pull off the heist of the century at New York’s annual Met Gala.”
While the official trailer debuts Tuesday, December 19th, an all-too-brief teaser for it can be seen below. The aspiring blockbuster hits theaters June 8th, 2018.
