With those eight words Derrick Coleman, better known by his stage name Fredo Santana, was formally introduced into the public consciousness. Now, Fredo is back in the news for more tragic reasons.
It’s been reported that Santana has passed away at the age of 27 from a fatal seizure. A cousin of Chief Keef, Fredo was found motionless and on the floor by his girlfriend last night (Jan. 19).
Fredo had recently become an advocate against the consumption of lean. His own addiction frequently triggered seizures, and had recently been hospitalized for liver and kidney problems he’d been battling for months.
Fredo leaves behind an 8-month-old son.
The rapper was behind one of my favorite collaborations of 2013: “Jealous,” with Kendrick Lamar.
