Galimatias Returns with Seductive Groove, “South”

Galimatias is back in action.

Largely responsible for the birth of Alina Baraz’s career with his work on her incredible Urban Flora EP in 2015, the Denmark-bred producer spent the next two years trying to figure out the next step in his musical direction, before returning in 2017 with “Let Me Know.”

Now, after sharing “Won’t Forget” and “Blowback” in the following months, the talented beatsmith keeps it coming with his first release of 2018, the ultra-smooth “South.”

Drawing inspiration from Pharrell, Justin Timberlake and D’Angelo’s early ’00s work, Galimatias broke down the creation with Complex. “Though it took me about a month to finish, the idea came together pretty fast,” he said. “I was messing around with the two prominent chords and added the drum groove. But when I made the bassline that’s when I knew the track was gonna amount to something. I feel like that one slap bass note kinda made the song. It definitely wouldn’t be the same without it.”

“I started working on vocals and let the vibe of the track direct the lyrical narrative,” he continued. “The music felt very sensual and intimate so that’s how I wrote it too.”
