After closing out last year with his Hitler Wears Hermes 5 mixtape, Westside Gunn has spent the first few months of 2018 teaming up with Mr. Green on a quickstrike EP, celebrating “Easter Gunday” for the third year in a row, and getting lifted with Conway and Alchemist.
Back in album mode, WSG is gearing up to release his next opus, Supreme Blientele Chris Benoit, in the near future. And based on a recent Instagram post, he’s promising it’s on par (and possibly better) than his FLYGOD debut.
“They wondered could I make an album better/equivalent to FLYGOD and I answered simply ‘Chris Benoit’ this album is a masterpiece,” Gunn said on Instagram. “I invested thousands just on the original art piece by Isaac Pelayo, which to me now is the new Mona Lisa. Every beat, rhyme, feature is stellar. As a true fan of hip hop and my love for art, I can honestly say this will prove that I’m a legend. I’ve never claimed to be the best lyricist but I make some of the best music and influence the best in the game. This what the culture needed.”
To kick off the campaign, Westside Gunn has released the first single, “Lotto” featuring a guest appearance from Griselda’s main shooter, Benny the Butcher.
