In a random burst of musical exploration, I came across a fairly new track from British singer Nao (pronounced Nay-O), whose name it quite familiar courtesy of her self-described “wonky funk” debut album For All We Know from 2016.
Since the album’s release, she’s stayed rather quiet for the most part, dropping a loose single, “Nostalgia” late last year. Eight months later, she returned with “Another Lifetime” and hopefully this single will lead to a project of sorts in the future.
“Another Lifetime” is the result of the end of a longterm relationship. It sees Nao pouring out emotions and exposing her fragility and hurt feelings to listeners. Speaking to FADER, Nao says, “Finding peace with ‘the end’ and what that means on a few levels was where the song came from.”
