Chester Watson Returns with New Album, ‘Project 0’

Chester Watson back? Yeah, we’re here for it!

After capturing my attention in 2014 with his “Phantom” video and making his DopeHouse debut less than a year later, the St. Louis-born, Florida-raised emcee is officially back in action with his first album in four years.

Hit first full-length release since 2014’s Tin Wooki (or 2016’s Past Cloaks, if you want to include older material), Watson returns with Project 0—which the talented Jeff Weiss broke down so eloquently…

These are nocturnal spells, dark stoner anthems consecrated by midnight skateboard rides and abnormal conjuring. It’s psychedelic music at its most visionary, an acid vagabond alternately sighing and seeking serenity. The soundtrack to Salvador Dali melting clocks, loud memories, bong rips and Topanga Canyon reveries. A bittersweet goodbye to adolescence, a document of a prodigy becoming a genius, witchcraft in rap form.
