Papoose Drops “Numerical Slaughter” with DJ Premier

Twenty years ago, after making an appearance on Kool G Rap’s Roots of Evil album, a young Papoose exploded on the scene with “Alphabetical Slaughter,” where he proceeded to murder the alphabet letter by letter.

Now, with his Underrated album dropping next week, the Brooklyn emcee is back at it, trading in letters for numbers on the DJ Premier-laced “Numerical Slaughter.”

“I initially released ‘Alphabetical Slaughter’ over 20 years ago and to this day fans still mention that track. From comments on social media, to people just walking up to me on the street to tell me it’s their favorite hip-hop song,” Pap told Complex. “Every other month I see another artist creating their own version of the concept. I figured since fans love the song so much, I would give them something similar on my Underrated project; but this time, flip the numbers. DJ Premier is one of my great friends and favorite producer of all time. I wouldn’t allow any other producer to assist me on this track.”

Fully embracing the concept, Pap gives 1-9 the business with lines like “Had to run from two cops for two blocks, it’s too hot/ Hand on my .22, listening to 2pac” and “He had a tre pound when he caught his third strike/ He a three time loser, they gave him a three to life.”

Check out the bar-work below, pick up Underrated on February 22nd, and be on the lookout for part two—because 10-2 ain’t safe either.
