Wiz Khalifa & Curren$y Finally Drop ‘2009’ Album!

blame it on Meka February 8, 2019

Keeping it a buck, I never thought that this project would ever see the light of day.

Way back before rappers started coloring their hair—you know, back when they were dressed in the most ball-crunchingest of jeggings—a rapper from Pittsburgh and a rapper from New Orleans got together to craft a (internet-imposed) classic mixtape.

Those two, Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y, dropped How Fly and nothing would be the same. It came at a major point in their respective careers, as the new-age doobie brothers would go on to become some of the most popular—and successful—rappers of the (and I absolutely loathe this term) “blog” era.

After giving us Live in Concert in 2013, Wiz and Spitta have been teasing a sequel. And now, as we near the 10-year anniversary of How Fly, they’ve finally come through.

Arriving on the same day as their joint tour kicks off, 2009 takes it back to the recession-maligned days with 14 tracks to get dazed and confused to. Production provided by Harry Fraud, Sledgren, Dame Grease, Cardo, MonstaBeatz, DJ Fresh and more. And while How Fly was feature-free, Problem and Ty Dolla $ign pop up with a pair of cameos.

Roll up and press play below.

Fun fact about the artwork. According to CJ Wallis, “the cover is a replication of the New Orleans apartment Wiz and Curren$y had in 2009 where How Fly was recorded. Everything included are the actual items seen in the few videos and images still remaining from that time.”
