With his 5th album, Rap Or Go To The League, finally arriving last night, 2 Chainz live up to and passed expectations with this project. With an impressive list of features who all held it down, another highlight point is the album’s production, which is the best collection I’ve heard in a while.

Kicking it with Genius’ Rob Markman, 2 Chainz explained what his main goal was with Rap Or Go To The League. “It’s actually an oxymoron because I want to bring to the table the fact that you don’t have to have a jump shot, you don’t have to be able to hold a note in order to be successful as an African American.”

Moving on to LeBron James’ role as A&R, Chainz explained that the choice was a “no brainer” for him and his contributions were seemingly very helpful in bringing the album together. “It was the little things… [like] narrowing down certain songs and having conversations about songs that may be jamming and may even fuck the club up right now, but what am I trying to do? What am I trying to get across? What’s the message?”

2 Chainz also discussed his spat with Ariana Grande that lasted all of three minutes, explaining how they were able to resolve the issue. While his remix of “7 Rings” dropped a month ago, he also revealed that “Rule The World” instead was the first track they worked on together.

Running at just over forty minutes, check out the interview in full below.
