Who Had The Best Verse In June?

blame it on Shake July 3, 2017

Lyricism is the backbone of hip hop. Although there are a ton of rappers who aren’t saying a gotdamn thing, there are those who are exceptionally gifted at putting words together over a beat. And with so many songs dropping during any given month, we feel that those rhymes that combine lyrical dexterity and cleverness with verbal gymnastics should be celebrated. Enter: Verse Of The Month.

This month, JAY-Z and Royce 5’9″ both had enough quality verses on 4:44 and The Bar Exam 4 to fill up polls themselves. So, that’s exactly what we’re doing. On top of the usual Verse Of The Month voting style, we’ve also got separate polls for both Hov and Nickel Nine.

For the June poll, we’ve got 2 Chainz closing out Pretty Girls Like Trap Music with some “Burglar Bars,” the brutal honesty of Shawn Carter on “4:44,” the Slaughterhouse machine reminding us they’ve still got rapper’s heads on the “Chopping Block,” Royce 5’9, Nick Grant and eLZhi delivering the goods for those “Still Waiting,” ScHoolboy Q putting it all on the “Table,” and Joyner Lucas channeling the power of a dollar on “Keep It 100.”

Take a listen to each below and get to voting.
