R.I.P. Gil Scott-Heron (4/1/1949 – 5/27/2011)

blame it on JES7 May 28, 2011

I really didn’t want to believe this when I heard the news. We’re losing way too many of our legends in music. His Pieces of a Man is hands down, one of my favorite soul albums ever, along with Curtis Mayfield’s Short Eyes soundtrack. You will be sorely missed, but never forgotten Gil. Rest in power! EDIT: Brought this back to the top as I put together a short compilation of contributions Gil has made to Hip-Hop music. It’s not the most comprehensive list, definitely missing a few joints here. The Gil Scott-Heron originals are the Youtube streams, following each Youtube link are the artist / songs that sampled that specific song. He may physically be gone, however his legacy will thrive through his timeless music and the offspring it created in the form of Hip-Hop. I’ll try and upload a .zip file later on tonight but no promises.
