As you know, most of the dopehouse (the lone exception being the nomadic Justice) will be in attendance during SXSW this week, and will be participating in a few things while we’re down there. Head down bottom for more information on the things we’re doing.
(2)Dope Cyphers and (2)Dope Questions, varying times throughout the week
Shake, armed with his trusty camera, will be bringing back the (2)Dope Questions segment of the site, interacting with fellow SXSW attendees and asking them everything from their favorite breakfast to worst groupie experience. He will also grab some talented MCs for quickstrike freestyle sessions on the street as well. The problem is that the guy is more “Where’s Waldo” than anything during SXSW, so catch him if you can.
SOBs 30th Anniversary Concert, March 14th, 7:30pm
You already see who’s going to be on this show. Need any more indication that this concert is going a zoo? Well, the organizers had to move the thing to a larger venue to be able to hold the amount of people clamoring to get in. With myself and the NMC’s LowKey providing the soundtrack of the night, you should definitely come for the music and stay for the ratchet.
Move Forward Music x Shameless’ SXSW Showcase, Friday, March 16th, 7pm
I’m scheduled to make a brief cameo at the second annual Move Forward Music x Shameless’ SXSW Showcase, which will feature the likes of Ab-Soul, Pac Div, THURZ, Flatbush Zombies, Troy Ave and more. I did this showcase last year, and it was an extremely packed showcase: I expect it to be the same on this go-round.
Duck Down vs. Blacksmith SXSW Showcase, March 16th, 8pm
After (or before, I really don’t know) the Move Forward Music x Shameless’ SXSW Showcase, I’ll be rocking for another brief cameo at the annual Duck Down/Blacksmith showcase alongside the likes of Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Statik Selektah,, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire and more. Friday is going to be nuts.
Korg Presents: Fuse Frequency, March 17th, 1:00pm
Rounding out my schedule of gigs is the Fuse Frequency, featuring an eclectic mix of artists from ScHoolboy Q to Idle Warship to J*DaVeY to 9th Wonder. I will actually be backed by a live band (something I’ve never done before), so it should be an interesting experience.
Then, of course, there’s…
The first (of what I hope to be many) two-night SXSW parties thrown by the dopehouse. As stated earlier, this is nothing more than a party for everyone who wants to take a break from the concerts and just bug the fuck out, all while getting free giveaways, down inexpensive drinks, capture the moments courtesy of UnkleLuc and riot to music all throughout the night courtesy of a variety of deejays. I personally plan on spinning an #IgnorantBrilliance soundtrack during my times on the turntables, and I have no clue what the other spinners plan on doing. So let’s all shorten our life spans by a bit.
