We’d like to take the time out today to celebrate the life and legacy of Christopher Rios, better known as Big Pun who would have turned 42 years young today. The Full-A-Clips/Terror Squad emcee has personally always sat in my Top 5 DOA, and having lived in the BX, I’ve witnessed first hand how big of an influence he had on boricuas, the Boogie Down BX and Hip-Hop in general. The man had mad clout and personified the definition of an emcee. Despite his notorious reputation in the streets, Pun had a heart. As childhood and best friend Fat Joe stated in an XXL interview:
Big Pun would take a crackhead off the streets and give him chicken at his house and rice and beans in one second. He was a great dude and a great father.
Long live pana! “The King of New York lays his crown in the Boogie Down.” Peep Pun’s (aka Big Moon Dawg) cypher with Joey Crack from 1995 on Stretch & Bobbito below.
