Sarah Barthel (of Phantogram) Talks Detroit Hip-Hop & Big Boi

blame it on JES7 December 20, 2013

Late Pass: The lovely Sarah Barthel (and my new favorite white girl) sat down with The Screen Girls to talk about how she met her bandmate Josh to form Phantogram..

She also touched on their connection with Hip-Hop, and their affinity for Detroit Hip-Hop. It must be noted that their debut LP, Eyelid Movies is a homage to 80s band Yes, David Bowie and Dilla, and it’s definitely apparent throughout that album, and their music in general. Especially the Dilla part; if you don’t believe us, take a listen to their latest single, “Fall In Love” off their upcoming sophomore album, Voices. In this interview, the duo name Enter the Wu-Tang, Donuts, Stankonia and Radiohead’s OK Computer as the greatest albums ever.

Finally, she mentions how Big Boi discovered them and the relationship that grew out of their meeting. Voices due out Feb. 14th.
