As of late, Kanye West may be more known for his personal life choices and countless rants. But that doesn’t change the fact that Ye is still one of the best producers in hip hop. Since his early days with the sped-up “chipmunk” sound to today’s over-the-top experimental sound, Ye’s always kept a choice sample up his sleeve and has made a living off turning past songs into new ones.
Kanye’s sampled hundreds of records throughout his career, some distinguishable on the finished product while others are more obscure. The range of his samples show just how much of a musical savant Kanye West is. We’ve highlighted five of these records used by West that are fantastic on their own. From The Jackson 5 to Daft Punk, it’s easy to understand why he would tap into the energy of these songs while he was recording. They’re just that good.
Pepsi Pulse has revealed their Top 5 (check out their list here), but we’d also like to hear from you guys. Take some time out from your busy schedules and let us know some of your favorite samples Kanye has used on records.
