Virginia Duo Awon & Dephlow Drop ‘Dephacation’ LP, Produced by Phoniks

blame it on Shake May 9, 2014

As you may have noticed, the DopeHouse has been dealing with some server issues and we’ve been rather unstable (or completely down) the past few days. It is that reason, and that reason alone, that we are late posting the latest project from Virginia emcees Awon and Dephlow and Portland, Maine producer Phoniks.

I wanted to make sure the site was up and running so that this music could be heard by as many folks as possible. So, here we are.

Making their DopeHouse debut, Awon and newcomer Dephlow share the mic over 2dope favorite Phoniks’ funky, soulful soundbed. With ten-tracks total, Dephacation is all straight hip hop, no gimmicks. From the press release…

A refreshing change of pace to the sea of monotonous chill hop and trap music on the airwaves. It is just no bullshit, no gimmicks real hip hop that is as much energetic and raw as it is polished and technically precise. The emcee tandem of Awon and Dephlow compliment each other perfectly as they trade verses lashing out at the new wave of effeminate auto-tune hip pop that has taken over in recent years. The two are particularly vocal about rap’s merger with the world of high fashion that has lead to rappers wearing skinny jeans, kilts, and women’s clothing.

Stream/download Dephacation below. Stand-out tracks include “Step Up”, “You Know My Name” and “Introducing”.
