James Brown is undoubtedly the Godfather of Funk & Soul, and I’d even push things to the edge and name him the GREAT Grandfather of Hip-Hop. With a hit discography and an endless list of his hits sampled many times over, the man is more than a legend. And the upcoming biopic, Get On Up is long over due.
Director Tate Taylor (The Help) will once again go behind the lens for the biographical drama about James Joseph Brown, Jr. who will be portrayed by Chadwick Boseman (who depicted Jackie Robinson in 42) and will focus on his early life and upbringing, all the way through his rise to stardom. The film is expected to hit theaters August 1st via Imagine Entertainment.
