One of the, if not the greatest show(s) to grace television screens will finally be getting a much deserved high definition remastering. The Wire, which ended its incredible five season run in March of 2008 will go through the tedious process of restoring the show from standard definition to HD.
As of this month, HBO is still reviewing the HD transfer of the episodes in order to give the best quality assurance, so there’s no official premiere date. It’s also not reported whether the newly remastered episodes would be broadcast in it’s original 4:3 aspect ratio or the more modern 16:9 ratio (HDTVs).
Regardless, this is great news as I always thought HBO just missed the high-definition boat when it initially aired, a la Curb Your Enthusiasm which started airing episodes in HD in 2009. Via Engadget.
