In 2000 Common teamed up with Erykah Badu and J Dilla for one of his biggest hits, “The Light.” Now, sitting down with Complex, both he, Erykah, Bobby Caldwell (aka the OG Your Old Droog) and others how the song came to be, which involves a humorous tale about a strip club and Dilla and much more.

If you don’t know, unfortunately Common’s father Lonnie “Pops” Lynn passed a few days ago at the age of 71. The DopeHouse sends our deepest prayers to Common and his entire family.
