First off, the bad news.

Yesterday (January 7th) DJ Premier unveiled via his Instagram account that his legendary recording home D&D Studios (most recently, rechristened HeadCourterz) was shut down today. The home of all things Primo, from his works on Illmatic to Ready To Die to PRhyme to even Christina Aguilera’s Back To Basics, will be shuttered as he and all of the other tenants of the building – per always the case with New York City, because gentrification – left in order for “luxury condos” to be built in its place.

The good news, however, is that while the original home base may be gone D&D/HeadCourterz Studios will still live on as Premier is simply moving into Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens, NY to continue his production work. I was actually very fortunate to have visited D&D Studios a little while back, and I salute any and everybody who ever set foot in there as well. For those who unfortunately could not, take a trip down memory lane with Primo below.

Gonna miss thiz place…. #premierwuzhere #DaveAndDoug #D&D
