When artists ask me how to get on the site, I pretty much always stick with the same response: “Quality work and patience.” Timing is everything – and pieces to the “art of the submission” puzzle align at the most random of times. While the majority of the new artists I stumble across these days usually come via late night SoundCloud surfing or personal recommendations from opinions I trust, there will always be exceptions.
Enter Appleby, an up-and-coming artist hailing from Illinois.
Earlier today, before I even knew he dabbled in music, we traded thoughts on Twitter about Chris Brown’s (Kendrick Lamar-free) video for “Autumn Leaves.” When we finished, that was it. No bombarding of links, he didn’t bark at me for “sleeping” on his music, nothing. It wasn’t until I went to his page and noticed a few familiar names on his followers list that I became aware of his talents. From there, I visited his SoundCloud page and proceeded to get lost in the music…
Appleby’s catalog is thin at the moment, but you can check his most-recent tracks “Scars In Waiting” (prod. Nova) and “Drinkin” (prod. SeeoBeats) – both premiered by p&p this week – as well as two past songs, below.
