While last Saturday (February 7th) was what would have been his 41st birthday, unfortunately today (February 10th) marked the ninth year of the sad passing of one James Yancey. To toast his everlasting memory, Beat Junkies J.Rocc and Rhettmatic crafted this dope mix where the two turntable maestros went back-and-forth on individual setups to craft a creative, 2×4 (2 person/4 turntables) improvisational mix. Check it out below.
Here is some footage of Rocc and Rhett creating the mix, down bottom.
Props to ego trip for the find.
As a bonus, ?uestlove and OKP also unearthed footage of Jay Dee working the drums during the studio sessions for Common’s 2000 album Like Water For Chocolate.
As you can see, it’s #DillaMonth here at the DopeHouse.
