With a healthy resurgence of vinyl consumers in full bloom (thanks, hipsters!), we (vinyl purists) sure hope that you’re going out each year and supporting your local mom-and-pop record shops for Record Store Day. After all, they’re the very last brick-and-mortar stores standing, where one can purchase vinyl, cassette tapes, comic books and CDs, all in one locale. Gone are the days of New Release Tuesdays at Tower Records, Borders, Virgin Megastores or F.Y.E.s It’s a bittersweet thing, for sure.

Boston-based imprint and online music boutique Get On Down recently announced their Record Store Day release, and it’s a heavy one.

First up is their re-pressing of Wu-Tang’s “Protect Ya Neck” 12″ single, complete with the original artwork printed on the sleeve. The vinyl looks to be “split-colored”; half-black and half-yellow and the label also reads nearly the same as the original 12″ release.

Following that is their “How I Could Just Kill A Man” b/w “The Phunky Feel One” pressed on 7″ and stacked in a double jacket sleeve, printed with “high gloss black on black UV coated outer jacket emblazoned with the Cypress Hill logo. Inside, the 7″ is housed in a full color recreation of the art from the original 12″ issue.”

Lastly is their massive Jurassic 5 Quality Control wood box set. J5’s sophomore album got the special treatment, and in GoD’s words: “Quadruple vinyl release housed in a outer Wood Box. A 24 page book is included with extensive liner notes by Brian Coleman including interviews with all six group members and archival photos by B+. The full album and complete instrumentals are included across the 8 sides with each piece of vinyl housed in European style jacket with never before seen artwork. The complete collection is contained in a collectable hard wood box with the J5 logo burned right in.”

Record Store Day lands on April 18th this year, and on top of these quality releases, Eminem’s just announced vinyl box set and more, RSD should be a great day for the Hip-Hop connoisseur!
