Despot has been rather despondent over the last couple of years. Outside of appearing on songs with Run the Jewels, Vampire Weekend, iLoveMakonnen and a couple others, the Queens-bred rapper hasn’t released much solo music. Until now.

Despot’s new single, “House of Bricks,” is produced by E*Vax of Ratatat and sounds like an instrumental off a 2012 Mac Miller mixtape. Referencing a bunch of childhood stories like Three Little Pigs and One Fish, Two Fish, Despot talks about anything but childish activities, like, well, slangin’ bricks. Even though he just ran his car through the car wash, his car is still dirty. He’s got money hidden in drawers in his guest bedroom. It seems like Despot has a bit of disposable income. Hopefully, it’s all going toward a solid debut.
