Premiere: Jah Cure – “Made In California” (Video)

blame it on JES7 July 16, 2015

Warning: This post will be filled with some bias.

We know what you’re thinking: What? A premiere of a reggae video on 2dopeboyz? How dare thy? Well, if you know your Hip-Hop sh*t and know us here at the DopeHouse, you’d know how important reggae music is to 1. me personally and 2. the crucial role reggae music played in the creation of Hip-Hop music and culture.

I believe I first heard Jah Cure’s amazing voice in 2003 – a year before I left the military. I was mesmerized by the brother’s voice: you could hear the pain and struggle he endured while doing time on alleged charges of gun possession and robbery; the soul was unmistakeable and Cure Again became one of my favorite roots/lovers rock vocalists – up there with the master himself, Gregory Isaacs.

You can hear bits and pieces of those who influenced Jah Cure (who was given that name by the one-and-only Capleton) as a yute: Beres Hammond, Sizzla, Black Uhuru, Burning Spear and of course Robert Nesta Marley.

But I digress. We are proud to world premiere the visual for Jah Cure’s latest single, “Made In California” – a tribute of sorts to the Kush State and of course some of the finest herbs you’ll find West of the Mississippi. Realize Southern California (Venice Beach) in the Gareth Cobran-directed clip above and cop Cure’s latest album, The Cure – packed full of love ballads and roots reggae, on iTunes via iconic indie label VP Records.

Also, do remember, Jah Cure will be performing on the second annual Welcome To Jamrock Reggae Cruise.
