Buffalo Black – “1984”

Dallas emcee Buffalo Black preaches that “war is peace, freedom is slavery” on his latest cut, “1984.” We’re a little late on this, but we’re willing to admit when we missed something.

Referencing the George Orwell novel of the same name, “1984” revolves around the famous quote, “He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.” Essentially, those in power will stay in power. Taking the quote into the eyes of a “21st century black man,” Buffalo Black examines how no matter the century, black people have been taken advantage and abused by those in power, mainly, in the current century, by police.

The song will be on the emcee’s Surilla LP set to release August 21. Listen to “1984” and watch the accompanying visual below.
