Chicago’s Verbal Kent teams with fellow Midwest emcee and the current King of Gangster Rap, Freddie Gibbs, for the first single off his upcoming LP Anesthesia, “Suitcase Switch” produced by Apollo Brown.
The two emcees share their stories of slanging bricks over Brown’s organ-heavy, aggressive production, who makes it sound as if Gibbs and Kent were in some sort of Midwestern trap house standoff, making sure their product gets moved in the right hands. Gibbs verses struggle to disappoint, no matter how much dope he sells. Gibbs (along with Pusha T) knows how to keep coke rap exciting — through storytelling.
Listen to “Suitcase Switch,” and pre-order Kent’s Anesthesia, released through Mello Music Group on Sept. 11, on iTunes.
