With more layers than a Bloomin’ Onion from Outback Steakhouse, Yasiin Bey has been able to switch between rapping, singing, acting, and comedy effortlessly throughout his entire career thus far. Who else can go from performing in a carpool with Dave Chappelle one moment…
… to cracking jokes with him in a sketch the next?
The Mighty Mos Def recently returned to the stage on Monday evening (August 4th), making his stand-up comedy debut at the Phi Centre in Montreal following a performance alongside Kendrick Lamar at the Québec city’s recent Osheaga Festival Musique et Arts. Titled “Happy Birthday! Shut Up,” Mos reportedly spent an hour on stage cracking on the Meek Mill/Drake debacle, Kanye West’s discus toss rehearsal at the Pan Am Games and everything in between.
While the video coverage is either hard to see or too brief (because the common rule is that attendees are banned from taking pictures or recording footage, so most of the clips were done on the sneak tip), there are brief chuckle-inducing moments throughout his set. While there’s a high chance that Americans may never get to see this (on account of Mos kinda-sorta-not-really isn’t in love with the States at the moment), fans can hope that he will continue to embark on this new humorous journey.
