The first concert I attended in 2015 was D’Angelo‘s first-ever headlining concert at Harlem’s Apollo Theater, his first show since releasing his first album in 15 years Black Messiah. His nearly three-hour performance – which included two encores! – is by far the best live show I’ve seen this year still. And now, the formerly reclusive musician has granted his very first television interview in almost as long – ten years, to be exact – this coming week, as he connected with the venerable Tavis Smiley for an extended sit-down that will air as a two-parter on PBS.
Expect everything to be covered: his super-extended vacation, his surprise album release, the ultimate decision to return to the music world after such a long hiatus, and much more. In the short preview, which can b viewed below, D’Angelo speaks on how the video of his Voodoo single, “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” changed his life for better and for worse.
The entire interview will arrive on both September 2nd and September 3rd. I definitely can’t wait for this.
