I almost want to say this has gone too far. But then again, it hasn’t gone nearly far enough.
Over the past couple months, Run the Jewels have been busy reworking their Run the Jewels 2 LP with cat sounds, because the Internet wins at everything it does. Almost a year-to-the-day ago, a Kickstarter asking Killer Mike & El-P to remix their second album with cat noises was introduced, and it worked. Up until June, we were wondering if it was REALLY going to be a thing. Then, RTJ dropped “Meowrly,” a remix of “Early.”
After another two months of “…wait, this is really happening?,”
Run the… or should I say, Meow the Jewels drops another tune: A JUST BLAZE REMIX OF THE CAT VERSION OF “OH MY DARLING, DON’T CRY.”
I don’t even know what’s going on anymore. As I’m writing this, I’m wondering what type of impact Meow the Jewels is going to have. Will it influence many fans of rap to adopt cats? Will it cause many in the world to hate cats? Or even worse, LOVE CATS? Why are people obsessed with cats? WHY DID RUN THE JEWELS AGREE TO THIS? (UPDATE: They’re doing this because they’re donating all of the money to charity. This keeps getting better and better.) Because it’s going to wind up better than pretty much everything that gets dropped this year, that’s why. Love live Run the Jewels, and thank god they’re cats now, because they hard-hitting duo gets seven lives now.
Just Blaze, I’m sorry you had to get dragged into this, but then again, I’m so happy you’re a part of this. Listen to “Oh My Darling, Don’t Meow (Just Blaze Remix)” below.
