At the start of the new millennium, Queensbridge poet Nasir Jones was quoted saying “No Idea’s Original” on The Lost Tapes in 2001. Nearly 15 years later, and that very statement rings louder than ever as artists continue to jack styles and bite without consequences. I mean, just look at how many Drake clones have popped up in the last year alone! (Don’t bother counting, there’s far too many.)

Bucking the carbon copy trend, Chicago emcee Nick Astro is all about creativity – something he’s proved time and time again. And with D.C. producer Dee-Lilly providing the backdrop, the idea’s continue to flow on their collaborative project, Nothing Is Original.

“This is a project where Dee-Lilly and I simply created music man. We didn’t force anything, if we were inspired by a ColdPlay or a Destiny Child record then we went with that, there were no rules with how we created this project from start to finish. I only ask that you simply listen with an open mind and soak it all in, this is not an intro to how great of a rapper I am but more so a great intro to who I am… as a human being.”
