R. Kelly has always been, still is, and will forever be: THE MAN.
I was going to rattle off a list of R. Kelly singles that are timeless (like the remixes to “Ignition” and “I’m A Flirt,” among many others), but I think it’ll always be agreed upon that Kells is a undisputed legend. That’s what makes songs like “Backyard Party,” the first single off his November 20 release, Buffet, even sweeter.
When I first heard “Backyard Party,” I didn’t pay it no mind. It’s was incredibly simplistic, and though it had a nice end-of-the-summer sound, I didn’t care for it much. But listening again paired with a relaxed, feel-good visual, I want to gather up family and friends, clean up by backyard and grill until nightfall.
Featuring cameos from Chance the Rapper and Snoop Dogg, the visual features about a million people in R. Kelly’s backyard playing mini-golf, eating food, hanging in the pool and having (what I’m sure is) the time of their life (because I know it’d be mine). I just want some damn BBQ chicken and ribs. And corn. And rice. And beans. Fuck, just give me it all.
