It happens to everyone: as we age our mentalities, beliefs and opinions adapt as well. For musicians, it’s an interesting conundrum; the life experiences that they experience also shapes the sound of their music as well.
California-reared musician Derek Pope is one such example. Formerly known as rapper Kidd Upstairs, he’s since eschewed his lyrical alias and style for something more harmonious. Continuing his venture into singing, the DopeHouse is proud to premiere the first single from his forthcoming debut album, We’re All Strangers. A self-produced, uptempo offering, Pope describes traversing a world only he knows – his life, with its ups, downs, and unique experiences. Listen to “Highs & Lows” down bottom.
