I’ve been a fan of J.I.D ever since I first heard the young ATLien on a track with EarthGang sometime last year. Since then, his DiCaprio EP – released in January – has stayed in rotation. He’s shined bright with his Spillage Village crew on their Bears Like This Too project. And he’s maintained his momentum with a couple of well-received singles.
Now, with his Para: Tu Reloaded project on the horizon, J returns with “Letters” – a somber-yet-hopeful record featuring SV-affiliate 6lack, DopeHouse favorite Pell, and Marian Mereba.
“This song came from a dark place but with a touch of optimism about things to come in the future,” he explained in an email to The FADER. “It was inspired by a combination of James Blake and Jack Daniels.”

Later this month, J.I.D will be joining Dreamville’s Omen on select dates of his Elephant Eyes tour.
And while I’m at it, here are two bonus freestyles that J dropped that in October.
