Every time I see Lianne La Havas in the headlines, my heart bursts. This woman has a damn-near perfect voice, tone, message, look and everything else you can imagine you’d need to make the argument that this woman deserves everything positive that comes her way. The British songstress just dropped her “Green & Gold” video, revisiting her Blood LP, and it once again reminds us of why I write things like the first sentence.
Though the mirror she stands in front of in the visual is broken, her confidence isn’t. As she learns to twist the negatives in her past into positives and learning experiences, the video transfers from a setting of a dimly lit room to a bright, open desert where she and her soul run free to live. La Havas may be one of the more under-appreciated artists — at least here in the states — I follow, but I’ll be damned if I don’t go down swinging trying to get her a bigger following. If I can’t convince you, maybe her NPR Tiny Desk concert set will.
