Eryn Allen Kane – “Piano Song”

One of the most beautiful voices in the music world comes from Eryn Allen Kane, a young singer from Chicago. Over the past six months, she’s sprinkled samples of her talents with the powerful “Have Mercy” and somber-yet-soothing “Slipping.” We now get a third single, “Piano Song,” and if you weren’t entranced by her voice before, this one should do it.

Starting calm and jazzy, Kane paints the throws of a relationship over keys from Macie Stewart (Kids These Days, Marrow). As the production builds, with a trumpet, drums and bass providing breaks of the soothing verses, so does the power in Kane’s voice. Though the song revolves around the idea that a relationship fell apart, the tune gives a sense of hopefulness. Kane sings “we tried” over and over with a slight hint of positivity before breaking free from the clutches of whatever is holding her down and as she soars into freedom.

“Piano Song” was debuted on the fifth episode of the third season of Being Mary Jane, a show on BET. Listen below.
