November 2015 marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of A Tribe Called Quest‘s seminal debut, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. As such, the group commemorated the occasion wit a remastered reissuing of the album, three remixed updates from J. Cole, Pharrell and Cee-Lo Green, and an exuberant performance with The Roots on The Tonight Show, as well as a star-studded party in New York City.

Following all of that, Tribe sat down with the Juan Epstein podcast to talk beats, rhymes and life. After wasting time with ItsTheReal, Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds met with Phife, Ali, and Jarobi (no Q-Tip, interestingly enough) to talk the album’s creation in their own words and eyes:

Well at first I was disappointed that Q-Tip didn’t show up for this (it was early) but as Ciph pointed out, we have had Tip before. It was amazing to hear about the inception of Tribe and the creation of People’s Instinctive Travels from the other members of ATCQ. Next year when Low End Theory gets celebrated, we will have Tip on with them. This had a few “Juan Ep” gem moments that will blow your mind.
