The song paints the story of a 21-year-old named Kevin who died from an overdose of Oxycotin, drawing in a larger theme of the negative stigma of celebrity and mental health issues like addiction. In the end, Macklemore called out large pharmaceutical companies and the judicial system who don’t care for the average addict.
