With his new album, King Push: Darkest Before Dawn (peep the artwork here), set to drop in just over a week, Pusha T stopped by Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show to premiere the album’s second single, “M.F.T.R.” featuring The-Dream. “You’d rather be more famous than rich, play your role, it’s easy being by bitch,” Pusha spits as he takes aim at the lack of realness in rap. “M.F.T.R.” stands for “more famous than rich,” which he incorporates in every verse somehow.

After the song premiered, Pusha spoke briefly with Zane Lowe about the track:

“‘M.F.T.R.’ was just how I was feeling in regards to the music industry — just the world today. I feel like a lot of people are in positions where they act a certain way or they’re acting like their lifestyle is so grandiose, it comes full circle and people understand that it’s not that. … People [nowadays] are way more famous than rich. That’s not something I’ve been in the music game for. …  It’s about flourishing!”

Listen to the radio rip of “M.F.T.R.,” which was produced by the immaculate Boi-1da and Frank Dukes, below.

Pusha spoke with Zane Lowe in-depth after the debut of the song, where he spoke on the creation of the song, the impending Darkest Before Dawn (which will boast features from Puffy, Kanye West, A$AP Rocky and J. Cole among others), and the goofiness that is SnapChat.

We need that Kanye West-J. Cole-A$AP Rocky collaboration to drop sooner than later!
