No pun intended, but life has not been exactly chipper for August Alsina. As a youth he has battle drug addiction within his family, and his older brother was tragically gunned down in 2010. He persevered, however ultimately landing a deal with Def Jam and releasing his debut album Testimony.

Or so it seemed. With the release of his second album, This Thing Called Life, on the horizon, Def Jam – fresh from bungling the years-delayed release of Jeremih’s third album, Late Nights – leaked August’s own project hours before its actual arrival date. August subsequently went on a Twitter tirade in response (before apologizing somewhat later). Now, This Thing Called Life has been officially released, punctuated by guest collaborations from Chris Brown and Lil Wayne, Anthony Hamilton and Jadakiss.

The album can now, officially, be streamed via Spotify and copped on iTunes.
