Deadpool.

Captain America: Civil War.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

These three movies are primed to dominate to “super hero” film genres of 2016. So, why is it that despite all of this X-Men: Apocalypse is somewhat considered an after-thought? Well, one: the film comes from 20th Century Fox – the studios responsible for fumbling on the Fantastic Four franchises – and not Marvel Studios, the same who has turned Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man into well-respected, successful and burgeoning new franchises.

While the X-Men film series seemingly peaked at 2003’s X2: X-Men United, the film relaunched with First Class in 2011, and tried to recreate the acclaimed Days of Future Past storyline in 2014. The series will now shift its attention on its infamous mega-villain Apocalypse, and will introduce and reintroduce the characters Psylocke, Havoc, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Jubilee, Archangel, and Storm among others. While the trailer makes the movie look promising, it is of course just the trailer highlighting key points of the film. Fans will have to wait until May 27th, 2016 to see the end result.
