Despite the many jokes we share, I have a great deal of respect for Los Angeles producer Jansport J. From his work with independent rap mavens like El Prez (as PrezSport) to going full-blown R&B with Mélat (their Move Me project was one of my 2014 favorites), J has grown and developed greatly as one of the West Coast’s best kept secrets.

The Game Gear Gangsta will soon reveal a new album, blackwhitegoldville, in 2016. “The colors black and white symbolize the classic aesthetic,” he says. “Gold, a standard bearer – reinforcing the idea of forever and “ville” representing a metaphysical presence in a state of mind.” Set to drop on January 11th, he reunites with Mélat (who will also appear on the album’s opening track, “blackwhitegoldville [home]”) for “expand+exist,” which can be hard below.
