It’s been quite the turnaround for Ryan Daniel Montgomery. His musical direction at a near-halt, Royce Da 5’9″ would ironically retreat to the underground – and linking up with his Slaughterhouse brothers – and after reuniting with Eminem would experience the mainstream success that eluded him in the earlier stages of his career. Never one to turn his back, however, he reunited with DJ Premier to form PRhyme, releasing a critically acclaimed album in 2014.
Now, following the release of the deluxe edition of PRhyme, Nickel Nine takes a victory lap with his new solo cut “They Don’t Make Them Like This Anymore.” Produced by Streetrunner, Royce caps off his great 2015 with another great lyrical assault affirming his status as one of the better emcees out now. It’s hard to argue that there are no other types like Royce, indeed.
