PELL – “Pretty Things”

blame it on Patrick Glynn December 23, 2015

At the very least, PELL made damn sure a lot more people knew his name this year than they did in 2014. With all the singles leading up to the announcement and release of his Dave Sitek-produced LIMBO LP, the NOLA native certainly achieved entering the eyes and ears (including mine) of a larger fan base. So to end the year, PELL releases a soothing, reminiscent single, “Pretty Things.”

This song seems like it’s PELL’s take on the generic situation Drake croons and complains about on “Hotline Bling“: having someone call your phone late and night, causing you to think what could’ve been. “Late at night when you call my line, I think about if we could cross that line,” PELL sings as he tries to fight through the tough throes of a relationship. While it may not be intentional, it’s a much more level-headed and mature response to someone who might not want to be in a relationship with you than Drake’s was.
