Did Funk Volume Just Disband?

For a while now rumors have persisted that Funk Volume – the Los Angeles-based independent label fronted by former XXL Freshman Hopsin – has been going through the proverbial ringer for quite some time now, from de facto leader Hopsin supposedly quitting rap at one point and moving to Australia (that has since been revealed to have been an elaborate joke) to Atlanta spitfire Jarren Benton recently commenting that he “signed to No Limit.”

Now it appears that a veil has been removed, and that there are relatively major problems within the camp. It began a few days ago, with Hopsin leaving a lengthy Instagram message citing problems between he and Funk Volume co-founder Damien “Dame” Ritter.

(Ed. note: I’m leaving what he wrote below, in the case the post get deleted)

I’ve been having issues with my business partner Damien Ritter. We started this whole FV sh*t years ago, but this man has all the sudden built up the courage to disrespect me and tell me I don’t work hard when I’ve made him Extremely wealthy over the years from my music. At this point, if he doesn’t leave funk volume, then I will. I’m putting it out there publicly so he knows that it’s f*ck him forever. If ur a real Hopsin fan, I need your support right now and I only hope u continue to strongly support me if/when I leave FV. My heart will always rep FV, but as of right now, it’s not home for me as long as Dame is apart of it.

While some people have, understandably, brushed this off as another prank (apprehensive because of the apparent Boy Who Called Wolf Syndrome), Dizzy Wright has now taken to his Twitter account to voice his displeasure with the label.

I'm not sure when everything got so bad on our end but I wanna apologize to the fans… I did everything in my power to keep Fv together but because the foundation is so broken we've decided to go our separate ways, sad to say but It all happen extremely fast. I'm just upset cause I know how much I believed in this legacy, but I can't let this stop me from growing my fan base and having a big year. I can only hope the people that fuck wit Dizzy Wright always remember what I contributed to this label and hold me down for that in the end. So peace and happiness and may that funk volume love never die everything is just not meant to last forever. I'll be on tour wit Logic starting Feb 4th for 2 months so if u catch me at a good time I'll be happy to explain but this is all I got for social media…

Sadly, it now appears that it is no longer a laughing matter, and the status of the Funk Volume – as well as all of its artists – is currently unknown.
